MCINTOSH SHIELD CONTEST

KAIAPOI. ONE POINT AHEAD OP RANGIORA All winter games have been played in the Mclntosh Shield competition between the boroughs of Rangiora and Kaiapoi, and kaihpoi is leading by one point Summer sports and pastimes have yet -to be contested before the winner of the trophy for the 193637 season is known. The season will end on April 30, 1937. Details of the points won so, far are as follows: —Women’s hockey, drawn; golf, won by Kaiafcoi; football, won by Rangiora; basketball, won by Kaiapoi; snooker, drawn; miniature rifle shooting, won by Kaiapoi; billiards, won by Rangiora. OXFORD POST OFFICE INCREASE IN AMOUNT OF BUSINESS TRANSACTED There has been considerably Increased business transacted at the Oxford Post-Office compared with that of the previous year.... FLOWER SHOW AT (CHEVIOT

PRESBYTERIANSHHOL t DISPLAY The Knox Presbyterian Church held its thirteenth afmual spring flower show and sale of work in the public hall, Cheviot. The exhibition of flowers was of a very high standard, and the judge, Mr Marshall (Christchurch), commented on the excellent blooms exhibited. The entries received totalled more than 200, an increase on last year’s show. Mrs C. W. Dalgety was the winner of the three champion blooms. Special prises were won as follows? —-Miss E. Sloss's special fpr most' points in the novice section, Mrs N. R. Grampton, 25 points: Mrs C. W. Dalgety’s special, most points dn the decorative section, Mrs A. -Williamson, 12 points,* Mrs T. Stevenson’s special for most pqints in the children’s section, Miss Kathleen Crampton, 12 points. The various stalls did good business during the afternoon and evening, and the success of the show was largely due to the efforts of the secretaries, Mrs T. Lockhart (sale of work), and Misses M, Hyde,' R. McAdam, E. Sloss (flower show), and the energetic committee. A quantity of farm produce was on sale, and 16 ’ fat sheep, which met with keen competition. During the' evening competitions were held and resulted as follows: Nail driving: Women, Mrs L. W. G. Cone; men, the Rev. W. H. Carroll. Candle lighting: Women, Miss R. McAflam; children, Thelma Lockheed.

ROYAL HUMNE SOCIETY’S AWARD

PRESENTATION TO WAIKARI MAN During an Interval at the rifle club dance in Waikari, opportunity was taken to present to Mr Joe McCreanor the Royal Humane Society’s certificate for his courage in saving the lives of two men who were in, difficulties in the Hurunul river. The presentation was made by Mr W. K. McAlpxne, chairman of the Waipara County Council, who congratulated McCreanor on his bravery, and spoke of the distinction conferred by a Humane Society award. Tennis Club’s Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Waikari Tennis Club was held with Mr B. J. Marsden presiding.' , The annual report and balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £lB 13s lOd, were adopted. In recognition of a her services to the club, Mrs B. L. The Weather The meteorological, observations for September recorded by Mr . Jewell show that rain fell on nine dajte, the maximum fall being 48 points on September 12. The rainfall for September was 2.10 inches,'compared with 2.98 inches for September, 1935. The total rainfall for the present year is 51.7 inches, compared with 19.55 inches for the same period last year. Ten frosts were recorded, the heaviest being 10 .degrees on September 4.
