Gostelow, former registrar tor friendly societies and Government actuary, the Minister m charge of friendly societies and the National Provident Fund Departments (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) said that Mr Gostelow had a unique record of service, and the Government was losing a man whose ability it had hoped to utilise in putting into effect its national superannuation and health schemes. Several societies which he had helped by acting as lantern projectionist gathered m Wellington to say good-bye to Mr Arthur J. Bland, who left on Wednesday on a world tour. A presentation was made by Mr A. Leigh Hum. The societies represented were the New Zealand Antarctic Society, the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Philosophical Society, the New Zealand Numismatic Society, and the Theosophical Society .Mr Bland is a brother of Mrs John Holder Worgan, of Fendalton. Mr Justice Page, president of the Arbitration Court, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and left later for the West Coast to preside at a sitting of the court. Mr T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, also arrived from the north yesterday, and will attend the sitting of the court on the West Coast. Mr H. E. Herring, M.P.. returned from Wellington yesterday. Mr J. R. McKenzie was among the passengers by the Rangatira from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr A. E. Loach, secretary of the Kindred Clubs (Savage and Orphan) Association, will leave to-night on a tour of the North Island. Mr W, A. Payne, travelling representative of E, Lufft and Son, the Sydney newspaper machinery firm, is at present in Christchurch on a business trip through New Zealand. He will leave for Wellington to-morrow night. , Flying Officer D. Dustin, a New Zealand airman who has been abroad for_ the last six years, returned to Wellington this week, to join Cook Strait Airways. He was with the Royal Air Force in England and Iraq for five years, after which he was in Egypt for some time as a pilot for Misr Air work, an Egyptian service using similar machines to those of Cook Strait Airways. Mr Dustin, who is accompanied by his English wife, intends to make his home at Nelson. Mr C. S. Thomas left last evening for Greymouth to attend the sittings of the Arbitration Court, and will return to Christchurch at the week-end. Mr Bruce Macdonald, representative of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., at Culyerden for the last nine years, has been transferred to take charge Of the company’s Rakaia agency. Mr Allen Shand has been appointed to succeed him. Mr T. Reid, lately in charge at Rakaia, will now superintend all stud stock business at Christchurch. Mr W. A, White left by last night’s steamer express on a visit to the North Island. Mr J. R. Lester will leave by the steamer express this evening on his way to Cambridge, where he will judge the elocution sections of the competitions. The retirement is announced of Captain Evan Evans, master of the Bass Strait steamer Taroona, and formerly in command of the Union Steam Ship Company’s Rotoiti, Manapouri, Karitane, Karori, Rotomahana, Taviuni, Wainui (first), Wakatipu, Ngatoro.
