PREVENTION OF SPEEDING BY traffic A; decision to ask the Highways Traffic Inspector to visit the borough for a day to endeavour to prevent speeding through the borough was made by the Brunner Borough Council at a recent meeting. The Mayor, Mr J. Smeaton, presided, and there were also present Crs. Mclvor, Gutherbelet, Fordham, and Barber. The Brunner Collieries, Ltd., forwarded a cheque for £3O as a gilt to the Brunner Tennis Club. It was'agreed to write to the member for the district asking hum to approach the Minister for Public Works about raising the overstructure tne Brunner traffic bridge. The height of the bridge at present was said to be eight feet five inches, and this caused inconvenience to passenger buses and motor-lorries. FLOWER SHOW AT HOKITIKA good display of blooms The annual spring'flower show, organised by the St; Andrew’s , Ladies’ Guild. Hokitika, was held: in the Soldiers’ Hall on Wednesday. There were' very satisfactory entries in all classes, and in spite of the recent wet weather there was a beautiful display of flowers. A number of attractive stalls did a brisk business during the afternoon and evening. The show was opened bv the Rev. M. H. Feist, who expressed his pleasure at the artistic display and congratulated the guild members on the success of their efforts. -
