OBITUARY
MR GEORGE BURNETT The death occurred in Wellington re* cehtiy of Mr George Burnett, whowas formerly connected with theatrical profession. Mr Burnett, an Australian, came to New Zteatend many years ago as t inftUJbcr thS «. C. Williamson ’“Squaw Man" company, headed by Mr Charles Waldrea, the American actor. He was later a member of the "Charley’s Aunt" amateur company which made a successful tour of New Zealand. MR E. COGHLAN The death of Mr E. E. In 1908 he was transferred to Wellington as clerk. On hia return from service with the Expeditionary Force he was promoted to the position of examiner, money order and savings bank branch, Wellington. . In 1921 Mr Coghlan was promoted to be assistant supervisor of the money order and savings? bank branch, Wellington; in 1827 to accountant, Invercargill; to auditor, accounts branch, in 1980: to supervisor, money order and savings bank branch. Wellington, In 1932; and to accountant. Christchurch, in 1033, which position he held at the time o< his death. Mr Coghlan was in charge of the post office at Apia, Samoa, In 1915, and served in the Expeditionary Forces from 1918 to 1922. He also participated in the Boer War and wa# a member of the South African Veterans’ Association. He took a keen Interest In the National Rifle Association, and was usually in attendance at the championship meeting held annually at Trenthain. In hi? younger days Mr Coghlan was well known in Auckland swimming circles. MR JAMES HAIN
mB9B ABSOCI4TIOIT tSuoiuaM INVERCARGILL. September 21. The death occurred to-day of Mr James Hain, for many years headmaster in the Park and South Schools at Invercargill. He was 73 years of age. Born at Ballarat he arrived in Invercargill in 1880. lie was a prominent bowler, with an Australian and New Zealand reputation. He is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mrs Wai a J. Jones, His son Stanley was killed in action at the Somme.
