The Hon. H. T. Armstrong (Minister for Employment) left Christchurch for Wellington last evening. Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice of New Zealand, is expected to return from his trip to England on October 22. The Rt. Hon. R, B. Bennett, a former Prime Minister of Canada, has returned to Wellington after visiting Dunedin. He is a guest at Government House. Professor W. Mohr, of the Dairy Research Institute of Kiel University, has returned to Wellington after visiting Massey College and dairy farms near Palmerston North. He will leave for Australia on October 2. A motion of congratulation to Mr P. R, Harman on his appointment as president of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was carried at a meeting yesterday of the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association. Sympathy with the relatives of Messrs J. G. Yager and C. H. Hewlett, and Dr. T. Beveridge Davis, members of the association who died recently, was expressed in a motion carried by the general council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) last evening. Mr L. Hack has been appointed custodian of Sydenham Park in place of Mr J. Holmes, who has been granted six months’ retiring allowance by the Christchurch City Council. Mr F. Atkinson has been appointed custodian of Barrington Park to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement on superannuation of Mr J. T. Riley. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr James Willoughby, who died recently after 22 years’ service with the Christchurch City Council,^ was passed at a meeting of the council last night. At the time of his death, Mr Willoughby was manager of the showroom at the Municipal Electricity Department. Reference to the death of Mr J. S. Dales, until recently sexton at the Sydenham cemetery, was made at a meeting of the City Council last night by the Mayor (Mr J. W.
