PLACEMENT SCHEME
WORK FOUND FOR MANY MEN The Government’s placement scheme has now entered upon its fourth month of operation in the industrial life of the Dominion. The total number of men placed in employment since the scheme began 13 weeks ago is 4153. There is no sign of any slackeningoff, an increase of 512 placements being recorded for the week ending August 15. < Buoyant trade conditions and the circumspect manner in which the placement officers select applicants for specific appointments have won for the scheme the confidence and wholehearted co-operation of many employers. • Of the 4153 men placed in employment, 2197 are in permanent positions, 771 are casually employed, and 1185 have been found temporary jobs. The number of placements effected to date in / " Christchurch are light by comparison with some of the other centres. In this city a total of 301 men have been placed, 198 being listed" as permanent, 26 as casual, ‘-and 77 as temporary. The totals for other towns include—Wellington 765* Duftedia 46$
Invercargill 492, Auckland. 322, Greymouth 147, Nelson 159, Tim am 141, Palmerston North 135, New Plymouth 101, Wanganui 116. In all 22 towns i are represented in the returns.
