THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM
LABOUR’S FIRST BUDGET CRITICISED DOUGLAS CREDIT MOVEMENT DISAPPOINTED The quarterly meeting of the Christchurch division of the National Council of.the Douglas Social Credit Movement of New Zealand (Inc.), held last ■evening, passed the following motion unanimously;— “That this meeting expresses its strong disapproval and disappointment with the Government’s first budget which proves that the Government does not intend to fulfil its pre-elec-tion promises in respect to the reform of the financial system, in the spirit as well as the letter in which they were made. “This meeting considers that without such a reform in the financial system —that will make possible the financing of consumption to the full extent of production without increasing taxation or borrowing—there can be no escape from the economic ills from which society suffers. “This meeting pledges itself to exert all possible pressure on the Government to ensure that it fulfils its election pledges, to use the real social credit of the Dominion in the manner in which they led the public to believe it would be used.”
