COSTLESS CREDIT

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir, —We have been hearing and reading a great deal of late about “costless credit,” and I must confess that this term has me puzzled. Would any of your readers please tell me whether there is such a thing as “costless credit”? I would prefer an opinion from a student of economics and not from a Douglas credit exponent. It seems to me that any special issue of credit would be liable seriously to jeopardise such things as life insurance and superannuation funds. I say this because it is the ability of the funds to earn interest, which makes it possible fpr both of them to pay out on the scale on which they at present do. 1 If costless credit were issued m any quantity, would it not prove costly to the participants in such schemes as I have mentioned?.—Yours, etc., RIGARDANTO. August 18, 1936. INCREASED RATES • TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Slrj—l think the ratepayers should hold a meeting to protest against the increase of rates. Since this present council took office mine have increased 15s, I strongly object to the tramway rate—l6s sd. Why should the ratepayers pay for the Tramway Board’s mismanagement? Hoping some drastic action will be taken.—Yours, etc., A VICTIM. August 18, 1936. %
