PERSONAL Mr J. Flood, secretary of the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union, re-, turned from Wellington yesterday. Borough Leases The Lyttelton Borough Council, elsewhere in this issue, invites tenders for the leases of Godley House, Diamond Harbour, the cottage and buildings at Corsair Bay, and a cottage and land adjacent to the abattoirs. A Busy Waterfront Yesterday was an exceedingly busy dav on the waterfront at Lyttelton. By 6.45 a.m. a large goods train and three heavV meat trains had arrived, and many others arrived during the day. Nine ships arrived in port yesterday. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s big liner Rangitata was loading meat and sundries; the Port Line steamer, Port Darwin, was taking in a similar cargo; the steamer City of Dieppe- was discharging American cargo; the Walpiata was discharging Auckland cargo; the Gale, the Holmdale, and the Foxton were loading for North Island ports and the Canopus was discharging coaL The Kairanga arrived in the afternoon from Wellington With Australian cargo for disenarge. Ail available union labour was engaged, and a large number of nonmembers of the union secured employment Fire Brigade Dance One of the most enjoyable dances in Lyttelton this season was held last night, when the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade held its annual dance. About 200 ( dancers attended, including the Mqyor (Mr F. E. Sutton), Cr. J. N. Neville (chairman of the fire prevention committee), and representatives of the "Lyttelton Club (Mr T. C. Voyce). the Lyttelton Miniature Rifle Club (Mr F. Mills), the New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade (Superintendent H. Stokes), theßangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade (Fireman J. Jones), the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Christchurch Fire Brigade. Music was provided by the Lyttelton’s Own Orchestra. At the supper adjournment the Mayor presented the following awards: —Treasurer H. H. Lublow, eighth bar for 21 years’ service: Foreman R. Malden, Firemen A. Wyatt and A, Sullivan, fourth bar for 13 years’ service; Secretary A. Large and Fireman W. Geayley, first bar for seven years’ service; Firemen R. Harvey, J. Gamer, and I. Carson, medal for three years’ service. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr T. Hempstalk and Miss H. Andrews, and a lucky spot waltz by Mr A Olsen and Miss Coiuaie Loadas,
