SCHOOL CHILDREN AT WINTER SHOW

BILLETS REQUIRED FOR WEST COAST PARTY Large numbers of town and country people Continue to visit the Winter Show daily, the numbers being swelled by numerous organised school parties. Persons attending yesterday numbered 2814, which was an increase of about 400 on the number present on the corresponding day last year. The purpose of the show is. of course, to teach the public to appreciate the efforts of New Zealand manufacturers and the worth of New Zealand-made goods, but at the same time the show is one of the big entertainment features of the year for thousands of people, and it is being appreciated as such. The organiser (Mr E. H. Marrmer) expressed satisfaction yesterday at the splendid response to the appeal for billets for the party of West Coast children who arrived on Tuesday evening. He added that a further party of about 200-children would be arriving from the West Coast to-day and billets were required for about 50 of them. The children would be returning to the Coast on Saturday. More than 700 school children visited. the show yesterday, the numbers from the various schools being as follows: —Rangiora District High School, 30, Waipara 15, Omihi and Spye 15, Scargill 15, Woodbury 19, Amberley 50, Heathcote 45, Kirwee 25, Lynnford 10*. Little River and Puaha 100, Parnassus 20. St. Mary’s College 130, St. Michael’s 60. Leeston 50, Technical College girls 150, Fresh Air School 18. Waifeuku and West Eyreton also sent parties. The programme yesterday Included items by Derry’s Military Band, Perce Skinner’s Harmonica Band, and Miss Bessie Macdonald’s Pl Sttractions for this afternoon and this evening 'include Madam Karnos Punch and Judy, the Flying Colenos, Percy Butler’s Serenaders. and a skating ballet. The show will definitely close on Saturday, when it is anticipated that largo crowds will attend all day. One of the special attractions in the afternoon will be a children’s fancy dress party, beginning at 2.30, for which good prizes will be provided.
