federation holds annual CONFERENCE (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, August 18. The third annual conference of the Dominion Federation of School Committees’ Associations opened in Dunedin to-night. The president of the Otago School Committees’ Association (Mr R. S. Vercoe) was i the chair. Delegates were present from Auckland, North Taranaki, Manawatu, Wellington, West Coast, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Southland, and Otago. After the delegates had been welcomed by the president, the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) and the chairman of the Otago Education Board (Mr James Wallace), the president addressed the conference on the value of the work carried out by school committees throughout the Dominion, and expressed the hope that they would find a common meeting ground in the conference for the future benefit of the children of the country. The report of the federation’s parliamentary committee was presented, and it was stated that Mr N. A. Ingram and Mr A. Parlane had been appointed to represent the committee at a special conference in Wellington on Friday called by the Minister for Transport (the Hon. R. Semple) to discuss matters affecting traffic control and safety on the roads.
