ENTERTAINMENT OF VISITORS
CHAMBERS of commerce CONFERENCE HELP FOR MINISTER’S MISSION I IN LONDON i ' ' [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, August 18, An assurance that the Government i would do everything in its power to : provide adequate entertainment for 'the delegates to the congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire, to be held in Wellington in October, was given, by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, during discussion on the estimates in the House of Representatives to-day. The subject was raised by the leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. G W. Forbes, who referred to an item in the estimates providing for the expenditure of £2OOO for the congress. It was essential, he said, that the delegates should be suitably entertained and should be given a good impression of the Dominion, lor it was possible that a great deal of good might be achieved by their visit. In the circumstances he thought that £2OOO was Scarcely sufficient to provide the entertainment of which the occasion was worthy. . . “The Government is anxious that the very best that can be done on this occasion should be dene,” said the Prime Minister. “It is possible that more good may result from associations being formed with these men than by the Minister going home to London, but if we can make a real ]ab of it we will at least assist the Minister in London I agree that we should not do anything that would curtail the activities of the delegates and I am sure that the best that is in us will be. put into making the congress a success.” The Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, sai4 the provision on the estimates was to carry out the degree of hospitality decided on by the previous Government, but if anything was required in excess of that already provided for it would he granted. _
