COLDS AND INFLUENZA

SO THE EDITOX OV THE PXEBS. Sir, —In “The Press” on Thursday appeared a short article on common colds and influenza. The British Medical Journal states: “Research into these two diseases has revealed nothing of value.” Quite so. It also states: “No man would earn more gratitude than the first man to discover a way to free humanity from the common cold and influenza.” First of all, what is a cold? It’s one of nature’s first warnings, telling us there is something wrong, and if it’s not seen to it will generally lead to something worse. It’s really a safety valve. If we only knew it, a cold is a great blessing to a good many people; if thev did not develop a cold something more serious'' would develop. The medical fraternity seem to have a mania for curing, when will they put the same energy in trying to find the cause? There is only one way to cure a common cold, in fact, most diseases, and that is to prevent it. A healthy person never gets a cold. As soon as we pay more attention to the food we eat, the common cold" will soon disappear, Pope any jkbd

never did cure, and never will cure. —Yours* etc., BJLE. August 15, 1936.
