WOODCUTTING SCHEME

REPORT ON PROGRESS AT TEMUKA

RETURNED SOLDIERS’ MONTHLY

MEETING

So far this season 580 cords of wood had been cut under the firewood scheme, reported the president (Mr A. R. Beck), at the monthly meeting of the Temuka branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. He said that the two blocks of timber had been cut out and he was negotiating with the engineer of the Geraldine County Council about another block.

The South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association advised that the Red Cross Society was discontinuing making a free issue of fruit to returned soldiers in the hospital because of the lack of funds, and the South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association was continuing the practice in the meantime. An appeal was made for a contribution towards this fund. A grant of £2 2s was made.

Advice of a grant of £7 from the canteen fund towards the relief of distress was received.
