TOWN PLANNING

ZONING OF WALTHAM ROAD COUNCIL RESCINDS DECISION A decision to rescind a resolution adopting the suggestion of the Town Planning Board about the zoning ,of Waltham road was made at a meeting last night of the Christchurch City Council. The town planning scheme submitted by the couhcil to the board provided for both sides of Waltham road being zoned for commercial purposes as far as the junction of Waltham road with Langdown street, but the board considered that the zoning should not extend further southwards than Hastings street, and to this the council agreed. ' Recently, however, an application was received for a permit to erect a factory on a section in Langdown street opposite the end of Waltham road, and the council agreed to grant the permit and extend the commercial district to take in the two sections involved, it being overlooked that alteration to the zoning of Waltham road had been agreed to. In the circumstances, however, the council considers that it should rescind its resolution to adopt this suggestion of the Town Planning Board as to the zoning of Waltham road, and to adhere to its original proposal that the whole of Waltham road should be zoned for commercial purposes.
