WELLINGTON R.C.

f TO MORROW'S PROGRAMME

The Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting will open at Trentham tomorrow. The fields are up to the usual Trentham strength, and patrons can look forward to some great racing. The win and place system will again be in operation. The track is likely to be soft. The programme is as follows;—

11.30 a.m.—

MARIRI STEEPLECHASE, of 250 sovs, About two miles and a half.

st. lb. st. lb. Royal Llyn Dhu .. 9 0 Banquet 10 11 Count Illuminagh 10 8 Willonyx 9 0 Miss- Winston 10 6 Battle Ground 9 0 Dozie ..10 6 Cordon .. 9 0 Lycidas . • 9 9 Indiscretion 9 0 Strome .. 9 8 Kaokaoroa 9 0 Electric Flash 9 5 Kaola .. 9 0 Cometra .. 9 4 The Banger 9 0 High Speed 9 4

If all the acceptors for the Mariri Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase go to the post an interesting contest should be seen. There are several proved performers engaged, including Royal Banquet, Illuminagh, Miss Winston, Dozie, and Strome, while High Speed, Count Willonyx. Electric Flash, and Ccmetra have shown useful form over the big fences. Speculation will take a wide range, and the best supported may be Miss Winston, High Speed, and Illuminagh.

12.9 p.m.—

WOBURN HACK HANDICAP, of 200 sovs,

Six furlongs, st. lb. st. lb. Pbnty .. 9 13 Terry ..8 5 Bantry ..99 Ngatirahiri 8 5 First Chapter 9 4 Caen .. 8 4 Ben Braggie 9 3 Braw Lad .. 8 4 Hunter’s Bing Boy .. 8 2 Morn 9 3 Golden Anne 8 0 Lionheart 8 12 Golden Ridge 8 0 De Trop .. 811 Myriam .. 8 0 De Friend 8 10 The Sandwich

Hunting Star 8 9 Mister Quex 8 5

Man 8 0

Ponty has a big weight tp carry in the Woburn Handicap, but he is of good class, and probably will be sent out first choice. He has raced well previously at Trentham, and does not appear to have a dislike for soft going. The remainder seem to be very evenly matched, and recent form is strongly represented. Ponty, Bantry, and Lionheart are entitled to engage most attention.

12.48 p.m.—

VITTORIA HACK HURDLES, of 250 sovs.

One mile and a half. st. lb. st. lb. Hunting Jay 11 4 Black Man 9 9 Silk Sox .. 10 13 Hunting Go 9 7 John Charles 10 12 Vinco ..9 3 Havering .. 10 6 Count Emotion ..10 5 Willonyx 9 2 Ethlop ..10 5 Camilla Horn 9 0 Signaller ..10 1 Santoft ..9 0 Blue Tiger .. 10 0 Te RangiLord Val .. 913 tumau 9 0 Haeretonu .. 9 10 Royal Bengal 9 0 Beau Gallante 9 9

A rather cumbersome field for a hurdle event will face the starter for the Vittoria Hack Hurdles, and some fast work will no doubt be witnessed. Form is strongly in evidence again, and there should be a keen tussle for the honour of favouritism. Silk Sox, Signaller, and Haeretonu comprise a likely trio to take part in the final stages.

1.30 p.m.— STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. Six furlongs, st. lb. st. lb. Pakanui .. 9 7 Half Note .. 8 7 Fair Weather 9 4 Mata Hari 8 2 Royal Dance 813 Wlno .. 8 0 Mother Alby .. 8 0

Superior 813 Copyist .. 8 0 Dollar Bill 8 12 Silk Arrow 8 0 Adalene .. 8 12 State Bank 8 0 Greek Gold 811 Grand Score 8 0

Some smart sprinters are carded for the Stewards’ Handicap, and the issue is very open. Dollar Bill and Wino are strong Riccarton representatives, and it would not surprise southern visitors if they should take part in the finish with Prince Acre.

2.9 p.m.— WELLINGTON STEEPLECHASE, of 750 sovs. About three miles and a quarter. st. lb. st. lb. Billy Boy ..11 3 Royal

Forest Glow 10 8 Banquet 9 8 Windsor Lad 10 5 Emancipation 9 4 Diamond ..10 4 Gascille .. 9 2 Pahu .. 910 Umtali ..90 Dunmure .. 9 9 Manawatu 9 0

Miss Winston 9 0

Indications point to all of the 12 acceptors for the Wellington Steeplechase fulfilling their engagements, and if so the customary spectacular contest associated with the long-estab-lished race can be anticipated. The form of all candidates is well known to investors, who no doubt will have difficulty in solving an intricate problem. On most recent performances the prospects of Forest Glow, Diamond, and Windsor Lad appear to be the most favourable.

2.55 p.m.— TRENTHAM HURDLES, of 350 sovs. One mile and three-quarters.

st. lb. st. lb. Val Watch ..11 7 Ruaform .. 9 10 Red Sun .. 11 0 Saltspray .. 9 9 The Smug- Travelling

gler 10 7 Agent 9 9 Streamline 10 0 Black Marlin 9 3 Chile .. 913 Blue Boy ..90 Journet .. 9 13 Royal King 9 0

The field for the Trentham Hurdles cannot be said to be as representative as in many previous years, but there is still good material to ensure a hard tussle over the final stages. The Ric-carton-trained Streamline is an interesting competitor, and this will give him his first opportunity amongst more proved hurdlers than he has hitherto encountered. He has not yet nad any experience on Trentham going, but should master it as well as most of his opponents. The Smuggler is a powerful candidate, and with the benefit of his racing at Ellerslie last month he will be a hard proposition. Saltspray was considered to have had his race in hand at Ellerslie when he .'ell at the last fence. He has previously raced well at Trentham. The final summing up may be in favour of Streamline, The Smuggler, and Saltspray.

3.32 p.m.— WHYTE HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. One

mile. st. lb. st. lb. Big Dook .. 9 7 Mustang .. 7 9 Epris .. 813 Rose Val .. 7 9 Dungarvan 811 Snowball .. 7 9 Arctic King 8 9 Boomerang 7 7 West Tor 8 9 Miss Peter Jackson 8 5 Hushabye 7 7 Takakua .. 8 5 Metal Bird 7 7 Alchemic .. 8 2 Shy .. 7 7 Rona Bay .. 8 0 Silver Briar 7 7 Korero .. 713 Vocal ~ 7 7 Lapel . - 711 Daring Deed 7 7 Royal Gallant 710 Double Shot 7 7 Jubilee Song 710 Golden King 7 7 Maine .. 7 9

Practically all racing centres in New Zealand are represented in the attractive field for the Whyte Handicap, and several of the candidates will be in keen demand, these including Epris, Arctic King, Royal Gallant, Dungarvan, Alchemic, and Big Dook, whilst amongst the light-weights Metal Bird, Boomerang, and Shy make strong appeal. This should be an excellent race, and the best supported may be Epris, Royal Gallant, and Dungarvan.

4.12 p.m.— TE ARO HACK HANDICAP, of 200 sovs, One mile.

st. lb. st. lb. Queen Nona 910 Windward .. 8 2 Hunting Calshot .. 8 2 Queen 9 5 La Parleuse 8 2 Wotan .. 9 3 Ayreslelgh 8 0 Vocal .. 811 Hellos ..8 0 Contract .. 8 8 Lady Kate ..8 0 Hunting Maid 8 8 Corowa .. 8 0 Santoft .. 8 3 La Femme Maestro .. 8 3 Nolr 8 0

Though the class of hack in the concluding event is not up to the usual Trentham standard, the race presents a difficult problem. On Dunedin form Vocal is likely to be favourite, and his most dangerous opponents appear to be Hunting Queen and [Wotan.
