LOAN CONVERSION PROPOSALS INVESTMENT MARKET CRITICISM SPECTACULAR RISE IN WHEAT . * The latest statement of the New Zealand Prime Minister on the loan conversion proposals has not allayed apprehension in the London investment market. Mr Savage’s criticism of the financial press, according to one statement, has raised “uneasy memories of Mr Lang.” Nevertheless, it is thought that New Zealand’s excellent record will ensure for Mr Nash when he arrives in England a sympathetic reception, provided attempts are not made to force conversion on bondholders.
Wool traders forecast a slightly weaker market at the London sales, which terminate on July 17.
The Smithfield market is unchanged. Dairy produce, however, has improved by up to 3s per cwt during the week. London commercial forecasts are that the market will fluctuate round about the present level.
