The Minister for Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) left Wellington for Christchurch last evening. He will open the Timaru winter show to-day, and will return to Wellington on Sunday. He will travel to Auckland early in the week to open the winter show there on Wednesday, The Minister for Public Works (the Hon, R. Semple) left Wellington last evening on a fairly long tour of part of the North Island. His main object will be to inspect the uncompleted Dargaville railway line. He said betore his departure that there was a good deal of agitation in the district which the line-was intended to serve for its completion, and he was anxious to make a personal inspection of the work. Mr David Dustin, of Egyptian Air Lines, Heliopolis, Egypt, has been appointed an additional pilot by Cook Strait Airways. He is a son of Mr D. E. Dustin, of Wanganui. Mr R. W. Midgley will leave by the steamer express this evening on the first stage of a visit to Australia. Mr A. J. Woodward was a passenger for Wellington by the steamer express last evening. Dr. R. Campbell Begg left Auckland for England yesterday. Mr W. McHardy Forman, formerly general manager for General Motors in New Zealand, left for England from Auckland yesterday. Mr A. H. Johnstone, K.C., has been appointed legal adviser to the Auckland City Council during the absence of Mr J. Stanton, the city solicitor. Mr Stanton will leave shortly to appear in a Privy Council appeal case for the Auckland Transport Board. Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., arrived by the Marama from Wellington yesterday morning. Messrs T. Stevenson and M, E. Lyons, of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, returned yesterday from the annual meeting of the Roval Agricultural Society in Wellington. Mr G. A. Lewin, Town Clerk of Dunedin, and recently appointed a director of the board of management of the State Advances Corporation, returned from Wellington yesterday morning, Mr G. W. Reid has been appointed a director of the Westport Coal Company, Ltd., to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr George Black on his removal to Wellington. Mr W. F. Young has been appointed engineer in 'charge of the completion of the South Island main trunk railway. Mr Young was formerly assistant district engineer of the Public Works Department at Wanganui.
