GREYMOUTH COURT RETURNS (THE PRESS Special Service.! GREYMOUTH, July 3. For the quarter ended June 30, there were 23 criminal and 13 civil sittings of the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth. ceven of the criminal sittings being before justices of the peace. Eight defended civil cazes were dealt with by the magistrate, and 108 civil plaints were entered, the total sued for being £1316 12s lOd. The bailiff executed 13 civil .warrants and 42 judgment summonses were issued. The total receipts at the courthouse were £383 5s 7d, civil fees amounting to £127 3s, criminal fees £55 14s, and fines £l2O 10s. Fourteen males were arrested during the quarter, and summonses comprised 1719 males and two females, including 15 males and one female in the children’s court. Miner Injured Injuries to his back were received by George Symonds, 25, single, a miner, through a fall in the Blackball mine yesterday morning. He was attended by Dr. R. D. N. Bissett, of Blackball, and later admitted to the Grey Hospital. His condition is not regarded as serious. Personal Mr H. Morgan, S.M., left to-day for Wanganui, on special leave. During his absence, Mr H. A. Young, S.M., of Christchurch, will act at Greymouth, and will arrive to-morrow. Miss M. Deere, who has been a member of the stall of the Albion Hotel, Greymouth, for the last 12 years, left yesterday for Wellington, on an extended holiday. She was entertained by the management, gues.s, and staff, and received several presentations. Miss Mabel Turley, whose marriage to Mr R. B. Scandrett will take place at Greymouth on July 8, was met by the management and staff c* i. B.

Baty, Ltd., and presented with a crystal water glass set. The presentation was made by Mr T. B. Baty. Mr L. W. Milne. Customs Department, left yesterday, on transfer to Timaru. Mr O. Ferens, secretary of the Dunedin branch of the Returned Sold.ers’ Association, left yesterday on return to Dunedin. Mr P. J. McLean returned yesterday from Christchurch. Mr N. G. Bird, Railways Department, Greymouth, left yesterday on transfer to Auckland. Miss C. Burns left yesterday on a holiday visit to Napier. Shooting Season Reports from sportsmen disclose that the shooting season just closed was only a fair one in the Grey district. Ducks were numerous, but because of the number of retrer' 3 and the amount of cover, there were not sufficient shooters out to keep the birds travelling. Many new licenses were issued this year, and with a further likely increase next year, better sport can be anticipated. Black swans were scarce, and few were shot. REEFTON RUGBY FOOTBALL [THE PUBS* Special Sendee.] REEFTON. July 2. Mr J. Crossman presided at the weekly meeting of 'the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union, A letter was received from the Inangahua Rugby League Sub-Centre about assistance in raising funds for the rest room, and proposing to meet the sub-union to draw up proposals. It was resolved to notify the League Sub-Centre that a sub-committee had been appointed to meet it to discuss the matter. The following are the fixtures for July 5. Senior —Waratah v. Star, Reefton, 2.45 p.m. (Mr G. Bennett); Cronadun v. Ikamatua, Cronadun, 2.45 p.m. (Mr P. Gallagher). Junior —Cronadun v. Ikamatua.

Reefton Whippet Club Mr B. H. Winchester presided at the ennual general meeting of the Reefton Whippet Racing Club. The following officers were elected. Patron. Mr J. M. Irving; president, Mr B H. Winchester: vice-presidents, Messrs J. Barnett, G. E. Hubbard, H. Farrell, W. Barry, T. A. Dellaca Dr. J, L. Wicken. Mrs Hussey, and -Mrs Osbourne; honorary secretary, Mr i. C. Dellaca; treasurer, Mr J. Spfilane. committee, Messrs F. and J. Sara, J. Griflen, M. Sara, J. Collis. L. Robinson, W. Ward, F. Wright, N. Christie. J. Spillane. J. Barnett, W. McGeorge, T. Moyle, and W. Winchester; auditor, Mr J. Noble. The meeting decided to write to tne Reefton Jockey Club asking for the use of the grounds on the same conditions as formerly. The sum of £7 los was directed to be paid into the general fund for Miss Elma Hindmarsh. Magistrate’s Court A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held before Mr H. Morgan, S.M. Maurice Flynp was fined 5s and ordered to pay costs for driving a motor vehicle without a license. The traffic inspector proceeded against H. L. Robinson for driving a motor delivery van without having the distinguishing number plates. Robinson was fined £1 and ordered to pay costs.
