RETURNED SOLDIERS' CONFERENCE

RELIEF OF DISTRESS (PBISS ASSOCIATION TCLIOBAIt.) WELLINGTON, June 18. Remits dealing with the employment of returned men were considered by the. Dominion conference of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. It was agreed that there was still need for provision from the Canteen Funds Board* and the National War Funds Council for the relief of distress. Two remits were carried, one being not to reduce the allocations from these funds, and the other that disabled men over 50 should be provided with work of a lighter nature than that usually afforded in a public works camp. A recommendation was carried that

the claims of the unfit soldier should not be overlooked in the Government’s unemployment programme, this displacing a remit brought forward in much more detailed form.
