YACHTING TROPHIES PRESENTED
There was a large attendance of members of the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club and their friends at the Club Hall last evening, when the annual social and presentation of trophies won during the season took place. Dance music was provided by the Lyttelton's Own Orchestra. Mr C. E. Brown, club commodore, took the opportunity of welcoming visiting yachtsmen, and called upon the president. Mr W. T. Lester, to present the trophies as follows: —Miller Cup; Pastime (W. A. Miller). Club cup; Hakari (I. T. Newton). Henderson Cup: Jean (H. Brodie). Varney Memorial Cup: Muritai (N. J. Payne). Tuohy Cup: Invader (J. Copplestone). Foster Cup: Rascal (K. Hendry). Gough Cup and Mr T. T. Gough's trophy: Waterbeetle (E. O. Sinclair). Norris Challenge Cup: Ngahau (A. L. Stevens) and Patua (J. Osborne) (equal). Graham Cup; Maperu (J. Dowell). Moller Cup: Echo (B. Masson). Neville Cups: Kawe (N. Holst) 1, Patua (J. Osborne) 2. Mrs C. Priddy’s trophies: Kawe (N. Holst and G. Louttit). Evan’s Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club’s trophy: Patua (J. Osborne). Old yachtsmen’s race: Hakari (J. Sinclair). Women s races—Open class, commodore’s trophy; Pastime (Miss K. Brown) 1. Marangi (Miss Mary Stevens) 2. X class, Mr W. T. Lester’s cup: Huia (Miss A. Brown) 1. Colleen (Miss M. Roache) 2. Under 13 feet class. Mrs F. Hobbs's trophy: Listless (Miss N. Cowens) 1, Result (Miss P. Whitford) 2. Trophy for keel yacht skippers gainng X class boats: Manihi (C. Allen) 1 Crews’ races—Second class; Caprice (F. Dobby, sen.). X class: Avenger (F. Priddy). I class: Kawe (K. Louttit). Under 13 feet class: Uira (G. Matthews). The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) presented the R. C. Whitford Cup to I. Treleaven the skipper of Malay. Mr W. H. Beanland, secretary of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association, presented the Beryl Stacey trophy to F. Collins, the skipper of Caprice, also Sanders Cup badges to R. Priddy and K. Sillars. The commodore announced that Mr Sutton had given a cup for competition next season, and that Mr T. Archer had given a cup, to be known as the J. H. Collins Memorial Cup. for annual competition in the under 13-feet class.
