♦ SUBSCRIPTIONS SHORT OF TOTAL UNDERWRITERS TO FIND NEARLY £2,000,000 (tnriTKD PBXSB ASSOCXATXOH—COPTBIQHT.) (Received June 18, 1.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, June 17. The Commonwealth internal loan of £9,000,000 closed £1,800,000 short, the amount subscribed being £7,200,000, The underwriters will make good the shortage. The Treasurer, Mr R. G. Casey, stated that subscribers numbered 7650. He added that the failure to obtain the full amount was attributed to the improvement in business conditions, more outside avenues being now available for the investment of capital than during the depression.
