RANGIORA METHODIST BRANCH Visitors were present from Christchurch, Waikuku, Southbrook, and HorrelviUe, at the eleventh birthday celebrations of the Hangiora branch of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union yesterday afternoon. Sister M. Morley, of Christchurch, gave an address on “Sister Eva of Frederick’s Court of Silesia.’’ Congratulations were extended for the Christchurch branch by Mesdames G. Bowron and F. Thompson. A cake, presented by Mrs Blackmore, of HorrelviUe, was cut and sold. Woman’s Sadden Death A verdict that death was due to natural causes was returned by the coroner (Mr H. A. Young), at an inquest at Cust yesterday into the death of Essie Withers, a married woman aged 63, of Cust, who died suddenly at her home about 8.30 yesterday morning. Sergeant O. P. McEntee (Rangiora) conducted the inquest. Evidence that Mrs Withers had been in indifferent health for two years and that during the last week or two she had become worse, was given by William Withers, her husband, and Gladys Ester Sinclair, her daughter. Dr. L. M. King said that, from an examination and from the history of the case, in his opinion death was due to natural causes. The Weather After two days of intermittent misty rain, the weather in Rangiora day was brilliantly fine, though a cold wind blew from the east. Thirty-four points of rain was recorded at the Rangiora High School weather station on Monday and Tuesday. “The Bride of Frankenstein” will be shown at the Regent Theatre, Rangiora, to-night, with Karloff in his original role of “the Monster.” Karloff is ably supported by Colin Clive, Valerie Hobson, Ernest Thesiger, Una O’Connor, and Elsa Lanchester. "The Count of Monte Cristo,” Alexander Dumas’ great masterpiece, will be presented to-morrow and Saturday. There will be a matinee both days at 2.30 p.m. Seats may be reserved at Watson’s, telephone 202. HAWARDEN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The president, Mrs J. Doak. presided at the June meeting of the Hawarden Women’s Institute. Many good hints were given on how to wash woollens.
