PARTY AT OMIHI

At the home of Mr and Mrs A. N. Campbell, a progressive “500 party was held to raise funds for the Plunket Society. The winners of the card prizes were: Women’s, Mrs W. Baxter and Miss I. Dronn; men’s, Mr A. W. Stackhouse and Mr A. Reeves. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs D. A. Little* Miss H, Stevenson, Mr E. S. Sloss, and Mr T. Baxter. , . HAREWOOD The third birthday party of the Harewood branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the home of Mrs N. A. Frazer. In the absence of the president, Mrs A. C. Orchard presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. Two competitions were won by Mrs Leech (Styx) and Mrs F Mulholland A silver cup, presented by the Papa-nui-Waimairi branch for annual competition, was won by Mrs F. Mulholland for “Something new from something old.” Highest points for the year, for trophies presented by Mrs J. Dixon and Mrs L. C. Sisson, were won by Mrs Collinson (vase of flowers) and Mrs A. C. Orchard (single bloom). Mrs Frazer was thanked for her hospitality. The birthday cake, presented by Miss Townley and iced by Mrs W. Webb, was cut. An acrobatic item was given by little Pat Frazer. THE PEAKS There was a good attendance at the fourth birthday party of the Peaks Women’s Institute. A play in two acts, "That Blessed Baby,” was presented by institute members, with Mrs L. H. Hassal as producer. Mrs Hassal also gave two recitations, which were much enjoyed. Prizes for novelty dances were won by Miss M. Gray (Otira) and Mr R. Penney (Mitcham), Miss Gray and Mr J. Hewett, and Mrs J. Heasley and Mr L. Manning. The musicians were Mrs S. Cinders, Mrs McKie, Mr H. Piercy, and Mr E. BdTT6ti After supper the birthday cake, which had been made by Mrs D. Kennedy, and iced by Mrs F. Quigley, was cut by the president, Mrs H. Stokes. Prizes for most points gained during the year at institute meetings were awarded as follows; —General intelligence, Mrs L. Hassal; best flower in my garden, Mrs J. Quigley; needlework, Mrs C. McKeegan, and cpokery, Mrs H. Inch. A competition for an iced cake was won by Mrs Pohl * INSTITUTE DANCE AT CHEVIOT The Cheviot and Gore ,Bay Women’s Institutes held a combined benefit dance in the public hall. Cheviot, to assist in providing funds for Mr "Mac' Tweedle, of Gore Bay, who for several years past has, through a disability, been confined to his bed. There was a good attendance.. and a most enjoyable time was spent by those present. Novelty dances were wan by Miss E.

McClintock and Ur D. McClintock, Mrs A. Williamson and Mr W. T. Pain. Mrs A. C. Puller, president of the Cheviot institute, on behalf of the combined institutes. thanked the guests for their attendance. Institute members for their assistance, and Minson’s drchestra (Christchurch) for providing the music free of charge. Mr A. W.
