TRAFFIC INSPECTION

RANGIORA GROUP AGREEMENT Local bodies in the Rangiora group of main highways decided at a meeting in Rangiora yesterday afternoon to end the arrangement with Inspector P. L. Rouse for traffic inspection in the area on June 30. The Main Highways Board will take control at the beginning of July and Inspector Rouse will then be employed by the board. Bodies in the group under the present arrangement are the Rangiora Borough and County Councils, and the Ashley, Eyre, and Kowai County Councils, Agricultural and Pastoral Association The Northern (Rangiora) Agricultural - and Pastoral Association met yesterday morning, with the president (Mr G. H. Hassall) presiding. Sub-committees were elected as follows: Finance, Messrs W. Smith, D. Chapman, R. Peach, and C. Rands; grounds, Messrs R. Mclntosh, J. Inch, J, Mason, J. F. Dawson, F. G. Herridge, J. G. S. Wyllie, and R. Macdonald; hall, Messrs F. E. Martyn, H. A. Bennett. R. Mclntosh, and J. Mason; field root and flock ewe competitions. Messrs D. Chapman, C. McIntosh, R. Mclntosh, R. Macdonald, R. Peach, W. Stalker, J. Inch, J. F. Dawson, W. Matthews, J. G. S. Wyllie, W. Smith, and A. I. Macdonald. For the revision of the schedule, sectional committees were appointed to report at the meeting on July 14. The financial statement showed a debit balance of £47 14s 6d. Mr James Wyllie reported that no ploughing match would be held this season, but an endeavour would be made to hold one next year. A gift of £2 2$ to the flock ewe competition from the Cust-West Eyreton branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was accepted with thanks. It waa stated that the competition had cost the Northern and Oxford Associations 15s 3d each. Mr W. E. Barton was thanked for his gift of £1 Is. The meeting decided to ask schools to arrange special displays at the annual show this year. Pupils at the Rangiora High School taking the agricultural course will be iqvited to attend the field day to be held on Friday. Rugby Sub-Union Boundaries

Although the North Canterbury Rugby Football Club, with headquarters in Rangiora, has left the Canterbury Rugby Union to play in the North Canterbury Sub-Union, the subunion boundaries do not include Rangiora. The sub-union has decided to ask the Canterbury Union to have the necessary alteration made. In doubt about residential qualifications of players, the sub-union has also agreed to obtain a definition of “residence” and “domicile” from the registrar of electors. > Druids’ Lodge A committee, consisting of the Arch Druid (Bro. W. R. Robb), the secretary (Bro. C. R. Thwaites), and Bros. S. Tyler and J. J. Mcßrearty, was appointed at a meeting of the Rangiora Druids’ Lodge on Monday evening to arrange for a visit from the Christchurch Lodge at the next meeting. Bro. Robb presided at the meeting. Personal Mr C. L Jennings, a life member, was congratulated on, the attainment of his golden wedding by the committee of the Northern (Rangiora) Agricultural and Pastoral Association, at its meeting yesterday. A motion of sympathy with Mr W, M. Blain in the death of his daughter was passed at a meeting of the John Knox Presbyterian Church Board .of Managers, Rangiora, on Monday evening. ■ ' - Mr James Wylli? (Sefton) will yepresent the NortHerfi (Rangiora) Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the annual meeting of the Clydesdale Horse Society Of New Zealand in Christchurch on Friday, June 26. Mr W. Roberts has been appointed the representative Of the North Canterbury Primary Schools' Sports Association on . the North Canterbury Rugby Football Sub-Union. The removal of Mr G. W. New members were welcomed by the president (Mrs L. M. King) at a meeting of the Rangiora. branch of the Plunket Society yesterday afternoon. A gift of £1 Is was received from the Loburn sub-branch towards the purchase of scales for pre-school children and one of £1 from Mrs F. Siddons for the branch’s general funds. la her report, the nurse said she had visited 29 Rangiora homes during the month and 452 visits hat' been made to her office in the town. At out-stations 215 visits had been .made to her offices, and she had visited 51 homes. Her car travelled 551 miles. Regent Theatre
