CITY ESTIMATES
RECOMMENDATIONS OF COMMITTEE LITTLE CHANGE IN RATES EXPECTED It is not expected that the finance committee’s recommendations for this year’s estimates, which will be placed before the Christchurch City Council at the meeting on June 29, will result in any serious differences of opinion among members of the council. The finance committee has completed its consideration of the estimates in collaboration with the chairmen of the various committees, and it is understood that they will involve no radical departures from last year’s policy. While the general rate is expected to be much the same as last year, there will probably be slight reductions in the amounts of special rates. That the council has not considered it necessary to hold a special meeting to receive the finance committee’s recommendations is an indication that these will be generally acceptable to the whole council, and it is therefore unlikely that there will be any protracted debate. _____________
