RUN OVER BY RAILWAY CARRIAGE MAN KILLED AT OTAHL'HI’ (PUSS 4MOCUTIOX TBLXOXXU.) AUCKLAND, June 16. Run over by the wheels of the carriage of a suburban passenger train at the Otahuhu station early this morning, Richard Edelsten, aged 54, an unemployed motor-painter of Otahuhu, was killed instantaneously. Edelsten had left his home shortly before 8 a.m. to travel to Auckland by train. As the 8.18 train was moving slowly from an island platform, Edelsten was seen running across the lines of the eastern sidings toward the x'ear carriage. On feeling unusual bumps, the guard signalled the train to stop and the body of Edelsten was found on the line. The wheels of the last carriage had passed over his chest. Edelsten, who leaves a wife and two children, was a returned soldier, having served with the Australian forces during the Great War. MOTOR-CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE ONE MAN KILLED, ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED (i’UXSS ASSOCIATION telegram.) BLENHEIM. June 16. A fatal accident occurred when a party of six Wairau Valley farmers were returning home by motor-car last evening from attending a funeral in Blenheim. Within two miles of Wairau Valley township, and on a straight, wide stretch of highway, the motor-car, which was driven by George Gordon Davidson, collided with a laden timber lorry, and Leonard Leslie Hart was killed instantaneously. Davidson is not expected to live. Both received severe head injuries when the body of the car, a big sedan, was practically ripped off the chassis. Evidently the bodywork struck the men on the heads. Hart was a married man with one child. The four other occupants had a marvellous escape in the circumstances, receiving only severe shock. The accident occurred just after dark. The driver of the lorry was Mervyn Prentice. BOY SEVERELY BURNED TIN EXPLODES IN HIS HANDS iPKXSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.I BLENHEIM, June 16. Serious burns to the head, shoulders, chest, and eyes were received by Donald Gill, aged 12 years, a son of Richard Gill, a contractor, when a tin, thought to contain explosive, exploded in his hands. The lad found the tin in a shed and struck it. He was admitted to the Blenheim Hospital. CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED (7BBBS ASSOCIATION TILEQKAM.) HAMILTON. June 16. Fatal injuries were received by Richard Henry Lockyer. of Hinuera, as the result of a collision with a motor-lorry and trailer driven by Joseph Tebes, of Frankton. Lockyer was riding a bicycle towards Hinuera when he was knocked down near the Matamata racecourse. He died before the arrival of a doctor. AUCTIONEER INJURED William Sutherland, an auctioneer for the Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., was admitted to the Public Hospital last evening suffering from head injuries, received when his car ran into the kerbing in Shirley road.
