COLLISION IN CITY CHILD ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL Cars driven by Leo Laffey, of Tinwald, and Alfred Lance Dunn, of 20 Hereford street, collided just before noon yesterday at the corner of Gloucester street and Rolleston avenue. The screen on one side of Mr Laffey’s car was broken and the flying glass struck Joan Laffey, aged four, in the face. She suffered fairly severe cuts and was admitted to the public hospital. Mrs Laffey and three other children were in the same tar, but escaped without injury. Mr Dunn was also uninjured. Both cars were considerably damaged.

CYCLIST KNOCKED DOWN EARLY MORNING MISHAP IN FERRY ROAD

Rudcliffe Ripley, an elderly man, living at 52 Hopkins street, Woolston, was knocked over by a motor-cycle in Ferry road near the corner of Ryan street shortly after 1.30 o’clock yesterday morning, and suffered head injuries. He was treated as an outpatient at the Christchurch Public Hospital. The motor-cycle was ridden by Irving Jackson Steel, of Sumner, who was travelling in the same direction as Ripley and was overtaking him when the accident occurred. Morris, of Willowbridge, had a collarbone broken, when the “baby” car she was driving from Willowbridge to Waimate yesterday afternoon collided with a heavier car which was travelling south. The small car was fairly extensively damaged, but the other car, whose occupants were uninjured. was able to be driven on its way.

SMALL BOY INJURED STRUCK IN EYE BY ARROW (FBBSS AI3OCIATIO* TILIOBAIC.I NEW PLYMOUTH, June 14. Struck in the eye with an arrow on Saturday, a boy. aged six. was admitted to the New Plymouth Hospital with a severe injury. An operation was performed immediately, but whether the boy will lose the sight of the eye will not be known for a few days. The boy was George Richmond, a son of Mr and Mrs B. Richmond, of Wharehuia, near Stratford. The boy and his young brother were playing with a bow and arrows when the other boy accidentally released an arrow, which entered George’s eye. He was rush to New Plymouth for specialist treatment.

CHILD DROWNED (TEZ3S ASSOCIATION TZLZGBAU.) INVERCARGILL. June 14. A drowning accident occurred at Gore to-day, when a child, aged two and a half, apparently fell into the Mataura •river. The child was Murray Gordon, a son of Mr and Mrs A. V. Gordon. He was missing early this afternoon, and when a search was made he was found in the river. The indications were that he had not been in the water very long, but artificial respiration was unsuccessful.
