SPINETTO PARTY

Miss Lois Ollivier, whose marriage will take place this week, has, during the last few weeks, been the guest of honour at many pleasant parties, the latest of which was a spinetto party, given on Saturday afternoon by Mrs John McAlpine, of Craigieburn, at the home of her mother, Mrs Edwin Hay, Rhodes street. The drawing-room was gay with chrysanthemums and marigolds and a bowl of mixed flowers decorated the tea table in the diningroom. Mrs McAlpine wore a sapphire blue crepe de chine frock with white georgette collar and cuffs, and white flowers on the bodice. Miss Ollivier, who was presented by the hostess with a shoulder spray of flowers, wore a navy suit, navy and white spotted scarf and navy hat. Prizes for spinetto were won by Miss Nancy Salmond and Miss Cicely Turner.

Mr Simmonds welcomed delegates from the Methodist Sunday School was announced that the union's annual afternoon and evening conference woulcl be held ->n the third Saturday in July. The roll-call showed a good percentage of delegates from Christchurch and suburbs. The Rev. M. 4 Rugby Pratt gave an interesting talk on “The Historical Basis to the Missions of the South St Ori behalf of the delegates present from the Methodist Sunday School Teachers’ Union. Mr Virtue thanked the union for its hospitality. A vote of thanks was passed to the teachers of St. Ninian’s and St. Peter’s Sunday schools, who provided and served supper.

SPORTS CLUB’S DANCE Members of the Christchurch Technical College Amateur Athletic, Cycling, and Harrier Club held their annual dance in the Old Boys’ Memorial Hall on Saturday evening. More than 100 couples danced to music supplied by Mr S. Shackel’s orchestra. Messrs H. A. Kirby and A.
