Mr E. J. Howard. M.P., Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., and Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P., were passengers by the Marama from Wellington on Saturday. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., returned from Wellington on Saturday, Bishop Brodie, Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, returned on Saturday from the North Island. Sir Percy Sargood, of Dunedin, accompanied by Lady Sargood, was a passenger by the Maori from Wellington yesterday morning. Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, director of the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, returned yesterday from Wellington. Dr. C. E. Beeby, executive officer of the New Zealand Council of Educational Research, arrived from Dunedin on Saturday and spent the week-end in Christchurch. Mr lan Donnelly, of the staff of “The Press,” has left for Auckland, where he is to be married within the next few days. Messrs P. V. Bailey, J. W. Kime, D. Marshall, P. J. Riordan, and J. S. Simpson have been appointed members of the Springston Domain Board, according to the latest issue of the Gazette. Members of the advertising and commercial staffs of the Christchurch Press Company met on Saturday morning to make a presentation to Mr L. G. Williams on the occasion of his marriage. In making the presentation of a wallet, Mr F. H. Walls, advertising manager, conveyed to Mr Williams the best wishes of all for his future happiness. Mr H. Gladstone Hill, for the last four years musical director of Derry’s Military Band and lieutenant-bandmaster of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, is leaving Christchurch to take up his residence in Australia. Mr Hill has been offered and has accepted the post of adviser and arranger for military and brass bands to the musical houses of Nicholson’s, Ltd., and Allans, Ltd., of Sydney. His headquarters will be at Newcastle, where he will also manage the local branch of Nicholson’s, Ltd. Mr Percy Coyle, of Wellington, left on Friday by the Monowai for Australia on a business trip. Congratulations to Rotarian A. W. Beaven, on the celebration of his eightieth birthday on June 1, to Rotarian S. G. Holland on his election to the House of Representatives, and to Rotarian W. Thomas on his election as District Governor-elect, are contained in the annual report of the Christchurch Rotary Club. Mr T. F. Reilly, of the “Dominion,” will accompany the Government delegation to Samoa as the representative of the United Press Association. Mr John Fletcher, an official of the Condominium Administration, New Hebrides, left by the Monowai en route to the islands.
