VENUE OF ROYAL SHOWS

CANTERBURY SUGGESTION OPPOSED (PBBSS ASSOCIATION TEAXGKAM.) HASTINGS, June 12. The opinion that the Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Society has not the power to adopt the Canterbury suggestion to fix only two permanent venues for the Royal Show, and in any case would not be willing to do so, was expressed by speakers at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Mr J. H. Mac Niven, the chairman, § said the suggestion came from Christchurch only, and he did not think it would get any further. In his opinion, the Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Society itself would not agree. When the Royal Show's were started, they were meant to go round, and if the system were altered it would mean the end of the Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Society. The change must come from the Royal Agricultural and Pastoral Society, w’hich, he believed, would not dare to adopt it.
