MATCH PLOUGHING
CONFERENCE HELD AT RAKAIA DATES FOR THIS YEAR’S FIXTURES Delegates from the Rakaia, Cour-tenay-Paparua, South Canterbury, and Lincoln Ploughing Match Associations met at Rakaia on Thursday to discuss dates for matches and other matters of mutual interest.
Mr A. E. Langdale-Hunt was elected chairman for , this year and Mr A. Holmes secretary. Sympathy was extended to the relatives of Messrs J. Gilmour, T. Hanna, Kelcher, and Wyllie, who had always taken an active interest in ploughing competitions. It was reported that the Rakaia Association had arranged to hold a match on July 23, South Canterbury on August 1, and Fapakaio on August 20. North Canterbury, Lincoln, and Courtenay-Paparoa had elected to allow their fixtures to lapse for another year, but it was 1 the opinion of delegates that all the associations would hold matches next year. The dates chosen were approved by tho conference. It was decided to hold a conference of delegates in fixture during the third week in May, and to request all associations to hold their annual meetings before then.
As tile Courtenay-Paparua Association was not holding a match this year it was decided to offer the fixture to Papakaio. It was decided to recommend associations to insist upon competitors giv. ing 24 hours' notice when they were unable to compete. This, it was said, would avoid much inconvenience in those cases where teams had to be provided. Another recommendation was that time limits should be more strictly observed, so that the judges’ decisions would be available earlier.
