CHEAPER ELECTRIC COOKING
ELECTRICITY CHARGES REDUCED HALF-PENNY RATE At its Meeting on Monday, June Bth, the Christchurch City Council made a decision which marks another milestone in the electrical progress of this City. Where* an electric range, having its own fixed wiring, and of 4 k.w. capacity or over, is installed, the k>w rate charge for * domestic supply has been reduced from to This means that those consumers using an electric cooker of the size indicated, will now obtain not only their cooking, but also all radiators, part of their lighting and such accessory supply as that for vacuum cleaners, irons, radios, all at the remarkable rate of per unit This well nigh revolutionises the domestic use of electricity, particularly with regard to the use of radiators in the home and the enhanced possibilities of electric cooking. The Council, however, decided to go further. Where such a cooker is installed, the householder will now be entitled to use a water heater for l-3rd penny per unit for the whole 24 hours. The Council has now, in addition to its very liberal assistance to consumers in the purchase of electric cookers, made rates which give definite preference to those who use electric cooking. The bugbear of the cost of wiring, which often deterred those who desired to instal an electric cooker, has now been removed. A 20% discount on the retail price of the range is allowed, and the wiring is included in this reduced price. In addition to this valuable help, there now comes for those who have fixed wiring cookers of 4 k.w. or over a reduction of one third in the charge for cooking, and the night water heating rate is made available for 24 hour service.
