WAIMATE DISTRICT HUNT
MEET AT “LINKWOOD” On Wednesday the Waimate District Hui-t met at Mr J. Corrigan’s “Linkwood,” but with a strong sou’-wester blowing, scent was patchy, and it was a disappointing day for followers. Hounds were cast in stubble opposite the homestead and a hare was soon found in a cwampy creek. She ran up the downs for some distance before circling round to the road, which she crossed, and ran down the terrace to the riverbed, where hounds had to be whipped off. They were now taken back over the road to fresh country, and the next hare ran down the valley into Mr Greig’s, where hounds were close on her till she escaped in a rough creek. Mr Rattray’s country was .now tried and hounds quickly had another hare in front of them. She ran along the downs, and on reaching a ploughed field hounds were at fault. They puzzled out the line, and ran Up a gully before swinging towards the Hook creek, where hounds lost at the terrace. Those following were the master (Captain N. A. Rattray' on The Joker, the huntsman (J. Shaw) on Peter, Misses U. Wyndham on Waikama, M. Orbell on White Heather, J. Harper on Doctor, J. Studholme on Sam, Messrs R. Harper on Bonny Buff, R. Hardcastle on Erin’s Royal, D. Studholme on Tiptoes, M. Cooney on Hot Tea, J. Sutherland on Wilton. J. Studholme on The Saint, J. Helmore on Macduff.
