Lady Findlay, who has been visiting her son, Squadron Leader J. L. Findlay, Sockburn, has returned to Wellington. Miss Betty Morrow (Montalto) is the guest of Mrs J. H. Cuningham, Innes road. The engagement is announced of Agnes Helen, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs Arthur C. Thomson, Montreal street, Christchurch, and Thomas Henry, youngest son of the late Mr A, W. Rutherford and of Mrs M. Rutherford, Adelaide. Mr and Mrs Leicester Matson, Messrs Jack and L. W. Matson, and Miss Peggy Matson left Auckland yesterday by the Monterey for a trip to Sydney. Mrs Jack Matson left Christchurch for Sydney a few months ago, and will return with her husband next month. Mr and Mrs Sholto Douglas (North Canterbury) have bought a house in Hanson’s road, Riccarton, and will take up residence there next month. Mr W. Coop and his daughter. Miss Joyce Coop (Hawke’s Bay), are visiting relatives at Kaituna Mr Coop is staying with Mr and Mrs J, O. Coop and Miss Coop is the guest of Mr and Mrs Frank Coop. Mrs A. S. Taylor (Knowles street), who has been visiting Wellington for the golden wedding celebrations of her uncle and aunt. Mr and Mrs Hayward, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs Holmes Warren, who is visiting her mother, Mrs W. J. Minty, Repton street, will leave on Monday for her home in the Wairarapa. Miss Joyce Thomas, daughter of Dr. and Mrs J. Restell Thomas, Latimer square, has left for Nelson, where she is gaining further experience in her profession of nursing.

Mr and Mrs C. C. Graham and their daughter (Burma), Lady Frances Cole and Miss Wyndham (England) are amongst the guests at Warwick House, Armagh street. Mr and Mrs F. Staples (“Graham’s Fern,” Hoanga, North Auckland) are staying with Mr and Mrs J. J. Staples, Riccarton. Mrs G. B. Jardine, formerly of Greytown, who has been on a visit to Mrs Copland, Ashburton, is now visiting Mrs Riley, Valetta. She hopes to leave shortly for Scotland after a short stay in the North Island. Miss Norah Waller, who has been spending six months in Australia, has returned to Christchurch. Miss May Haggitt (Dunedin) is the guest of Miss Makeig, May’s road, St. Albans. At a meeting of the committee of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home, Dr. Eleanor Baker McLaglan was elected a member of the committee.

Arrangements are well in hand for the Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association ball, to be held at the Caledonian Hall on Thursday evening, June la Twenty old girls of the school will be debutantes at the ball. Music will be played by Fritz Seymour’s orchestra.

R.N.V.R. DANCE The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve headquarters were gaily decorated for the first dance of the season held bjr the R.N.V.R. Social Club.
