CRICKET

THE INDIANS IN ENGLAND CRITICISM RESENTED DISPLACEMENT OF CAPTAIN URGED IN BOMBAY (OKITID PBIS3 ABtOCIATIOH —COPTRIOHT.) LONDON, June 10. The advocacy by Bombay critics of a change in the captaincy of the Indian cricket team which so far in its tour of England has failed to win one match in 10, and has suffered six defeats, has drawn an indignant protest from Major Brittain Jones, manager of the team. He declares that the Bombay criticism does not represent Indian opinion, and that there is every confidence in the Maharajah of Vizianagram, whose selection as captain of the team was fully justified. “We have had a run of bad luck, not because it is a poor side or because it is badly captained.” he said. “We have been unfortunate with casualties and bad weather. It is not cricket to blackguard players because they have lost a few games.” The message from Bombay states:— “The failure of the Indian cricketers who have not won a match, and have lost six, is causing much concern in India, and critics are urging the board of control to take drastic steps to avoid ignominy. They advocate the displacement of the Maharajah of Vizianagram from the captaincy in favour of C. K. Nayudu or Dazir Ali. Nayudu’s brother, C. S. Nayudu, who is a googly bowler, is now flying to England to strengthen the attack.”

MATCH AGAINST DURHAM LONDON, June 10. The Indian cricket team in the first innings of a match against Durham made 174. Durham, in the first innings, has lost seven wickets for 95.
