DEATH OF MOTOR-CYCLIST
VERDICT AT INQUEST ON DARFIELD MAN A verdict that the death of Reginald Foster Painter, aged 28 years, a single man, of Darfield, on May 23, was due to a fracture of the skull, with severe bruises of brain tissues and intracranial haemorrhage caused by his colliding with a railway engine while crossing the line north of the Rakaia railway station on a motor-cycle, was returned by Mr E. C. Bathurst, district coroner, at the adjourned inquest held at Rakaia yesterday. Mr Bathurst added that no blame was attachable to any of the railway officials who were on duty at the time. Painter was returning from a visit to Rakaia when the accident occurred. Painter’s parents were represented by Mr W. O. Oliver, of Christchurch, and the Railway Department by Mr McAloon,
