NEW BREWERY COMPANY

BALLIN BROTHERS’ PROJECT PUBLIC TO BE ASKED TO ' SUBSCRIBE The formation of a new company, Ballins Breweries (N.Z.), Ltd., to absorb Hickmott’s Victoria Brewery, was announced yesterday. No announcement has yet been made of the price to be paid, or of the organisation of the new company, of which the prospectus has not yet been issued. Mr ,P. N. Quartermain, who made the announcement, said last evening that Ballin Brothers, Ltd., had been in business in Christchurch as wine and spirit merchants for more than 50 years, but had never been associated with the brewery industry directly. It had been decided by the friends of Ballin Bros.. Ltd., that it would be an advantageous addition to their existing organisation to include the commodities of the Victoria Brewery. The firm of Ballin Bros, was widely known, said Mr Quartermain, and as their activities were spread over a wide range it would be no tax on their present prganisation to market throughout New Zealand the commodities that would be supplied through their new branch.

The new company had been fortunate in securing the services as brewer of Mr Robert Shand, who was well and favourably known in Canterbury, and whose diplomas, and connexion with the trade would stand the closest 'scrutiny. The public would be asked to subscripe such capital as was deemed necessary to launph the new project The prospectus has not yet been issued, but it is understood that Messrs H. J. and O. L, Ballin will be joint managers of the new concern. The organising brokers are Messrs H. Kitson, of Stewart, and Company, and Wm. Anderson, members of the Christchurch Stock Exchange.
