THE FUTURE HIGH COMMISSIONER

MR JORDAN’S PLANS fFrom. Our Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON, June 10. It appears that the future High Commissioner for New Zealand in London CMr W. J. Jordan. M.P, for Manukau) will leave the Dominion before the House of Representatives resumes after its midwinter recess. -This course will be necessary because in September there will be a meeting of the council of the League of Nations, at which New Zealand might be elected to a seat. In that event Mr Jordan would be the Dominion’s representative on the council, and he would have to leave New Zealand some time next month. The term of the present High Commissioner, Sir James Parr, does not expire until the end of the year, and if Mr Jordan leaves New Zealand next month he cannot leave as High Commissioner. Accordmgly it has been suggested that it mignt be advisable if he were not to resign his seat. Ho wculdj then be able to attend the k*uo council as a member of ParLune 4b which would give him some cial status until such time as he v.-as formally appointed High Commissioner in London. A decision along these lines would mean that there would be no byelection for the Manukau seat until the end of the year at the earliest.
