*- w OFFICIAL FORECASTS (THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. June 10. The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Moderate to - strong south-wester-ly winds. Weather cold and changeable, with scattered passing showers; but improving gradually. Some frosts inland. Seas rather rough to rough. The following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cold and changeable, with passing showers in most districts; but conditions gradually improving from the westward. A depression is moving eastwards off New Zealand, and an ahti-cyclone is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Winds—Moderate to strong southwesterly to southerly, of gale force on parts of the East Coast, but gradually decreasing. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough about Foveaux Strait, and rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and south of East Cape; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman—Moderate to strong southerly winds and rather rough seas; but wind and sea soon moderating. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cloudy in the morning, but comparatively clear in the afternoon, although it was much colder than on Tuesday. Even though there has been no rain recently, the total fall this year is still about double that of last year. At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was clear, with a breeze from the south-west. The temperature was 39 degrees. The barometer, rising steadily, registered 30.25 inches. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland —Yesterday there was a moderate to fresh south-west wind, with wet weather. Showers fell during the morning, and the sky was overcast and threatening in the evening. There was very little movement of the barometer, which was practically steady until the evening, when it rose slightly. Wellington—The weather was cold, and for the most part, cloudy, with occasional showers. There was a moderate southerly wind. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night was 46.2 degrees; the maximum yesterday was 48.8 degrees. Dunedin —Pressure rose throughout the day and the barometer reading last night was 30.20 inches.
