HORNBY’S BIG LEAD

Rugby League Series ENGLISH TEAM’S ITINERARY Hornby’s defeat of Addington on Saturday leaves no doubt about the Rugby League supremacy this season. Though the margin was only two points, Hornby has a back line that is producing better form as the season goes on and is definitely a match-winning combination. As the Hornby Club now has 10 points and the next best, Addington and Linwood, have only six each, it is very improbable that it can lose the championship. The Addington backs lack finish to their attacks and badly miss C. H. Davison. L. G, Young is probably feeling his responsibilities as captain, as he is not reproducing last season’s form and fails in not keeping his attack down the centre of the field. The big improvement shown by W. Boniface at full-back was very pleasing to the Addington supporters. His throwing of the Hornby champion winger, E. Hendry, into touch-in-goal was a very fine bit of work. South Island Team Mr J. E. A. Amos, the South Island selector, will travel to Reefton on the King’s Birthday to see the first representative game of the season, West Coast v. Inangahua. After that, probabfy on July 4, a combined West Coast team will play Canterbury for the Northern Union Cup, held by Canterbury, from which.Mr Amos will select his South Island team to play the North Island at Auckland on July 11. Last year the South Island was beaten by only one point, and as that team was lacking in experience this year’s side is expected to win, although Auckland is exceptionally strong. English Team’s Tour The following are now given as definite dates for the tour of the English team (only one game will be played in the South Island and seven in the north):—July 25 (Saturday)—v. Auckland, at Auckland. July 29 (Wednesday)—v. Wellington, at Wellington. August 1 (Saturday)—v. South Island, at Christchurch. August 4 (Tuesday)— v Taranaki, at New Plymouth. August 6 (Thursday)—v. South Auckland. August 8 (Saturday)—v. New Zealand, at Auckland. August 12 (Wednesday) —v. Northland, at Whangarei. August 15 (Saturday)—v. New Zealand, at Auckland. The venue of the game in South Auckland has yet to be decided.
