Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., was a passenger from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday morning. The Hon. W. Hayward and the Hon. G. R. Hunter, members of the Legislative Council, arrived from Wellington by the Maori yesterday morning. Mr James Deans was a passenger from Wellington on the steamer express yesterday morning. The only nomination so far received for the mayoralty of Timaru is that of Mr P. C. Vinnell. Nominations will close at noon to-day, and if an election is necessary it will be held on Wednesday, June 17. Mr Neil Smart, Sullivan avenue, has left for Wellington to take up a position in the Land and Income Tax Department of the public service. Mr W. Huntley Spencer, tenor and producer for the Fisk Jubilee Singers, arrived yesterday in Christchurch, where the company will assemble for their forthcoming New Zealand tour, Mr I. B. Cromb returned to Christchurch from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday morning. Mr W. L. Wallace, Lautoka, Fiji, wili arrive in Christchurch on Monday, and will be the guest of Mrs W. C. Collins, Clifton, Sumner. Reference to the death of Mr E. T. Lawn was made at a meeting of the Canterbury Retail Watchmakers’ and Jewellers’ Association this week, and a motion of condolence was passed with his widow and daughter. It was stated that Mr Lawn had for many years been one of the most respected members of the association, and that he had, during troubled times, done very much to maintain the* prestige of his calling. The association would always remember him as one whose personal integrity was an inspiration.
