THE PROVINCIAL BUILDING
ACCOUNT OF LAST YEAR’S ADMINISTRATION The last year’s administration of the Canterbury Provincial Chamber, which have recently come into prominence through the request of the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers.’ Association that it might use Bellamy’s, a room in the building, is reviewed in the eighth annual report of the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Board presented to the annual meeting in Wellington. Saying that it would be necessary to elect a new committee at the meeting, the report remarks that the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Mr E. JHoward, M.P., are the only members remaining of the previous committee. Now that the Lands and Survey Department had moved to its new quarters in the State Fire Building, it would be necessary to arrange for an officer in the Provincial Buildings to take over the care and letting of the chambers. Last year’s revenue from the letting °f the chambers was slightly in exosss of the expenditure, but as the chamber was mainly used by various Government departments, which paid ho rent, the position was not altogether Satisfactory. All historic records had been removed to the library in the State Fire Building, where they were in safe keeping. the statement of receipts and disbursements showed that the bank balance was £197 7s.
