OBITUARY
MR H. SCHAFFER [THE PRESS Special Service.] OAMARU, June 5. One of North Otago’s best-known and widely-respected farmers, Mr Henry Schaffer, of “Crown Hill,” Windsor, died to-day, aged 65 years. Mr Schaffer was born at Lincoln, Canterbury, and received his education at the Lincoln School. He married Miss Mary Gerken, of Greenpark, Canterbury, who died some years ago. Mr Schaffer came to North Otago about 30 years ago, and settled at Windsor, where he farmed very successfully. He did not take an active part in public affairs, but was always keen on promoting the welfare of his district. He is survived by a family of three sons and one daughter, all of whom live in North Otago. MR C. H. TREADWELL (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, June 5. The death has occurred of Mr C. H. Treadwell, aged 74 years, who was well known in the legal profession for more than 50 years. Until recently he was head of the firm of Treadwell and Sons. Born in Ballarat, he came to New Zealand in 1876 when his father, a Presbyterian minister, was called to Wanganui. He began practice in Wellington in 1884. He was a member of the Council of the Law Society for many years, and was president in 1933.
