NO TRACE OF WRECKAGE
FOUND

WELLINGTON, June 5.
The master of the Kartigi, when off Porangahau on June 1, saw what he says were three rockets at intervals of 45 seconds and a minute from a position in-shore, slightly south of the mouth of the Porangahau. He searched for two hours without result. The postmaster at Porangahau, in conjunction with some of the settlers, went to the beach. They saw no actual vessel, but did see what appeared'to be a light at approximately the positic.i mentioned by the master of the Kartigi. The following day the coast was searched, but there was no trace of a vessel or wreckage. A careful search was also made by the lighthouse steamer Matai. The Marine Department has not been able to obtain information of any ship or launch being missing or overdue.
AEROPLANE SEARCH
THOROUGH BUT FRUITLESS (PftBSS 4.9SOCUTIOX TILBOXAH.) HASTINGS. June 5. An Aero Club aeroplane left Hastings this morning to investigate a reported wreck near Porangahau, but the machine returned in the afternoon after having made a thorough but fruitless search.
