London has now more municipallycwned houses than any other city in the world. The housing committee, whose estimates were submitted to the London County Council recently, has scent nearly £3,500,000 since March, 1935, an increase of more than £1,200,000 over the previous vear. This includes money spent on slum clearance, acquisition of sites for building, and the introduction of new electric services. More than 73.000 fiats and cottages have now been built by the London Countv Council. It was hoped to build 5000 block flats before March this year, but, owing to delays caused by the 1935 Housing Act and bad weather the programme is now three months behind time. Nearly 12,000 people were moved from slum dwellings into new homes.
