(mOTID PRESS ASSOCHTIOK—COPYRIGHT.)

(Received April 12, 6.30 p.m.)

SYDNEY, April 11.

The Australian Jockey Club's autumn meeting was opened at Randwick today in fine, cool weather. The attendance exceeded 60,0.00. The track was in excellent order.

The Autumn Plate saw the downfall of the public idol, Peter Pan. The former champion held a prominent position in the early part of the race, and dashed to the front at-the top of the straight. He momentarily appeared likely to win with ease, but faltered, finally ending up in third position. Peter Pan was lame on returning to scale, and his owner, Mr R. Dangar, states that Peter Pan has definitely finished his racing career. Gold Rod captured the Sires' Produce Stakes in an effortless fashion. He dashed to the front shortly after the rise of the barrier, and ran home a winner by two lengths and a half. Cuddle was responsible for a brilliant display of galloping in the Doncaster Handicap. She was slow to move at the start, but came round the field with a brilliant burst of speed passing the five furlong post. Thereafter she appeared to have the race in safe keeping, and won with ease by two lengths. Sunday newspapers paid a tribute to Cuddle's decisive victory, and point out that quite a large section of the public had forgotten her impressive displays in Melbourne after her arrival from New Zealand. She finished to-day with a and considering the state of the track and blustery weather . h . er o t*melmin 38sec, was a wonderful effort. Garrio was the sensation of the race, and K. Voitre was disgusted mth l Garrio's display. Regular Bachelor was again very unlucky, and was bunkered all through the race. Results:— FIRST HURDLE RACE, Of 500 sovs. About two miles.
