! Major and. Mrs Et. S. Orbell (Oamaru) and. Mrs .H.....M.. Barker (Bidwill street) spent the week-end with Mrs Edgar Jones ("Otiritiri"). Mrs G. Murray (Braemar), Mrs Bruce Murray (Godley Peaks), and Mr and Mrs Gerald Murray, (Glenmore) have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Wm. Allan (Ceylon), whd; has been staying with Mrs Wm. Evans (North street), is now the guest of her mother, Mrs Owen . Blackler burn). Mrs Harold Elworthy (Craigmore), who was the guest of Mrs D. Unwin (Hart street), has returned home. Mrs C. C. W. Haselden (Bank of New South Wales> is visiting Mrs W. Morrison' (Dunedin). Mrs Hunter-Weston, who has been on a visit to Christchurch. has returned to Mount John. Miss Ethel le Cren, who has been visiting Timaru, has returned to Christchurch. Miss K. Fleming (Dunedin) is the guest of Mrs J. Priest (Trafalgar Miss E. O'Shea (Wellington), who has been staying with Mrs James Wilson (Sefton street) has returned home.

TEACHER HONOURED AT GREENDALE

Miss Charles, who is leaving tne Greendale district to take up a position in another district, was entertained in the schoolroom, being the guest of the parents and school committee of the Greendale district. The first part of the evening was deyoted to games and a musical programme, items being contributed as follows: Pianoforte solos, Mrs P. J. Dowd, Miss L. Adams; songs by Mr E. Ridgen, Mrs P. J. Dowd, Mr S. Stones. A number of competitions, introduced by the Rev. A. T. Kent, created a good deal of' amusement. Mr D. Clinton, chairman of the school committee, presented Miss Charles with a rug, and referred to the high esteem in which she was held by both committee and parents, as well as the children. Mr P. J. Dowd, headmaster of the school, thanked Miss Charles for the faithful and loyal services she had rendered while she was associated with him. Miss Charles suitably replied. For the remainder of the evening dancing was indulged in. Mr F. Cullen acted as master of ceremonies, and Mrs P. J. Dowd played the music
