THEFTS FROM THE TAKAHE

COLLECTION BOX RIFLED

LOSS OF HIGHW-VALUED GIFT

A collection box outside the Sign of the Takahe was rifled during the week-end. The pence it contained, given to assist with the building fund, were removed and nothing but the battered box greeted officials when they arrived to open it. The theft v.v.s disheartening to the enthusiasts who have been working for the completion of the Takahe, especially so to Mr J. A. Thomson, paymaster at the Takahe, who has spent many hours of his own time in the interests of the building. Mr Thomson thinks that the collection box at the time of the theft would have contained only a few shillings, but every shilling counts at the Taiiahe.

Mr Thomson also reported yesterday the loss of a highly-prized brass dish given by a visitor. The dish was among the many small articles displayed in the big reception room.
