A visit was paid to Peel Forest on Sunday by 12 members of the Ashburton Tramping Club, who spent the day in climbing and visiting places of interest, including the church on Acland’s Mount Peel estate. The weather was good, in spite of the north-west-erly wind. The old portable steam engine in Todd Park, Waihi terrace, which for more than 25 years pumped the water supply for the borough of Geraldine to the reservoirs in the native bush, was dismantled during.the week, and was carted away yesterday for scrap iron and spare parts. Since 1925, a modern electric motor was installed.
